July 2016 – Watford – TASCAM, the brand synonymous with professional recording products, has released the iXR audio interface – a portable mini studio compatible with iOS devices.  Compact yet sturdy, the iXR features TASCAM’s acclaimed craftsmanship and technology, making it the perfect solution for recording music in any location.

An extremely portable device, the iXR can be connected directly to an iPad using a Lightning cable. Mirroring the convenience of iOS devices, the iXR allows music creation in any environment or location – simply plug in and play! Without the need for a computer, the iXR is compatible with DAW apps such as Steinberg Cubase LE, downloadable for free from the App Store. Users can record anywhere – simply pack an iXR, iPad, mic and headphones to capture sounds wherever inspiration leads.

The iXR features two XLR/TRS inputs supporting 48V phantom power for microphones, instruments and synthesisers and a MIDI In/Out to connect keyboards and drum machines. Stereo line out and headphone outputs feature separate volume controls to ensure optimum monitoring during recording and playback.

Like all TASCAM products, no compromises have been made on audio quality with the built-in Ultra-HDDA mic preamps – the same used in professional recorders. Their discrete construction achieves -125dBu EIN with a high number of components, which offers a noticeable improvement over mass-produced preamps. Recording formats up to 24-bit/96kHz are supported, meaning the iXR can be used to record hi-res audio.

Whilst the iOS compatibility allows users to record virtually anywhere, the iXR is also compatible with Windows and Mac devices. Connecting to a desktop computer, users can make the most of editing on a larger screen. Users can then create and edit music in different locations to utilise the best device for each stage of creation. Included with the iXR is a license for Windows/Mac Steinberg Cubase LE, whilst the iXR also unlocks restrictions on the free app on iPads and iPhones.

ixr_MacBook_iPad_FIBuilding on the practicality of the US-2×2 interface, the iXR is designed for simple operation with easy to understand controls and a clear interface. The rolled aluminium casing provides a tough yet stylish appearance, with protective guards and recessed jacks ensuring the iXR will withstand the physical nature of a rock and roll lifestyle. Measuring only 35mm thick, and roughly the same size as an iPad mini, the iXR is designed to be easily transportable and take up minimal space on worktops. Further enhancing its practicality, the iXR is also compatible with mobile power banks. When connected to an iOS device, the iXR must be powered by the device’s AC adapter.

The iXR is available in the UK now and is priced at £135 inc. VAT.
