Claire, Emma and Rebecca are back with more TIDAL Rising recommendations with their #6 post. Check them out here.
Night Moves are a Minneapolis country-leaning indie band formed by three high-school friends in 2010 – Guitarist/lead vocalist John Pelant, bassist Mickey Alfano and multi-instrumentalist Mark Ritsema.
Pennied Days has universal appeal and is an album anyone who has ever been in love with rock music should listen to. The band stretch their warm, melodic sound in a new and exciting direction while never losing the strong hooks and glitzy guitar that serve them so well. The album feels warm with feeling and tinged with a deep appreciation for rock and roll’s most storied songwriters. Ranging from traditionalist heroes like Leon Russell and The Band to r’n’b originators Curtis Mayfield and Sly Stone to pre-punk experimentalists Suicide.
“John Pelants lead vocals work wonders, sounding thoughtfully sad and quietly passionate throughout, an indie pop marvel well worth your attention.” Claire
Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, known by her stage name Halsey, started songwriting at the age of 17. In 2014, she signed her first recording contract with Astralwerks and released her debut EP, titled Room 93. Her debut studio album, Badlands, was released in 2015.
“I like her album Badlands. It has a slow beat, so it’s easy to work to.” Emma
Sarah Lake (formerly Sarah Mather) is an American Idol season 4 finalist–a singer-songwriter mom of two married to Ernie Lake, a Grammy-nominated producer. Born in Montreal (Canada), she moved to North Carolina at the age of ten where she developed a love for singing and a passion for country. She began singing in bands at fourteen, and in college toured the east coast and become a finalist in the John Lennon Writing Competition. At twenty-one, she auditioned for American Idol and made it to the finals–and she moved to the Big Apple to pursue her dreams. In New York, she met her husband and together they started their own musical family as she continued writing, recording and performing while becoming a mum and raising her son and daughter. Her passion for everything country never left her, so this year the Lake family is moving to Nashville, where Sarah is active writing and performing and will release her latest EP The Ride this summer.
“I’m not usually a country fan but I quite like Sarah’s upbeat sound. Country music always reminds me of the road trips I used to take across America with my family when I was younger, so this brings back good memories.” Rebecca
